CERTIFIED ESTATE ADVISOR® INFO

Who and What Is A Certified Estate Advisor® (CEA)®

The National Association of Financial and Estate Planning (NAFEP) is the exclusive provider of the Certified Estate Advisor®, CEA®, designation. The CEA® is an in-depth self study training and certification program, administered and controlled by NAFEP, which provides valuable estate planning expertise and respected credentials to life insurance and securities representatives (financial planners), plus attorneys and CPAs. The designation is unique, is the most prestigious estate planning credential available today and is highly respected in the estate, legal and financial planning communities. Many broker-dealers and financial services organizations advocate that their reps and agents complete the program before they do any estate planning or consulting with clients.

The CEA® program is a NAFEP developed curriculum and certification for estate planning (and is not financial planning oriented). The program’s has been validated by the many state insurance commissioners which have accredited the course material for professional continuing education credits, and by the Certified Financial Planner Board™ which also accredited the CEA® course material for continuing education credits for maintenance of the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP™) designation. The CFP™ is generally considered to be the most prestigious financial planning credential in the world. The accreditation of the CEA® estate planning course by the Certified Financial Planner Board™ represents the highest recognition available for the CEA® estate planning designation. Additional credibility derives from NAFEP’s credentials and reputation, as well as the reputations and credentials of NAFEP’s two Boards (see the NAFEP Info Home page for more details).

After completion of the prescribed study of course material, all CEA® candidates must take and pass a 75 question, NAFEP administered and strictly controlled exam before NAFEP awards the Certified Estate Advisor®, CEA® designation to the candidate. Successful CEA® candidates must then take other continuing education courses on an ongoing basis to maintain their CEA® certification. CEA® recipients receive ongoing education and consulting from NAFEP in the field of estate planning. The CEA® designation, in and of itself, is not a guarantee of some specific level of competence in estate planning. But it does assure that the CEA® recipient has a high level of interest in and an ongoing commitment to advancing in the estate planning field of practice. And no other designation focuses exclusively on estate planning, or receives the ongoing educational support in estate planning as the CEA® does. So the designation is comforting assurance that holders of the designation have received the best training available in estate planning, training which has been endorsed and accredited by a wide range of institutions, relevant professions and highly credentialed individuals.
